Gang Making Fake Gold Jewelry Busted

JEDDAH, 8 June 2004 — The authorities have apprehended a gang that was manufacturing fake gold jewelry, Okaz newspaper reported. Three Pakistani nationals and a woman rented an apartment and converted it into a “factory” making bangles, necklaces and rings. All were plated with gold and then sold as gold jewelry. It was the woman who the sold the jewelry in order to avoid drawing suspicion. Local police kept the gang under surveillance because a merchant alerted them to suspicions about them. The gang was arrested with 50 bangles in their possession.
