RIYADH, 12 June 2004 — The Second Philippine International School (SPIS) in Riyadh has launched its search for Little Prince and Princess to support the adopt-a-school program of the Department of Education, according to Marilyn R. Fredeluces, SPIS governing board chairwoman.
A complete computer set and $2,500 were donated to San Guillermo Elementary School in San Guillermo, Isabela, by the school’s Little Princess this year, Celine Menuret.
“Little Celine from the SPED department accumulated the highest number of votes among the contestants from prep to high school,” Mrs. Fredeluces told Arab News.
She added that three other schools in the far-flung areas of the Philippines were also given computer packages. These included Dororian Elementary School in Gigmoto, Catanduanes; Vinzons Pilot Elementary School in Daet, Camarines Sur; and Inopacan Central Elementary School in Inopacan, Leyte.
The benefactors of the said schools were Angela Paner, SPIS Princess 2004; Rolex Argoso, SPIS Prince 2004 and candidate Lemayel Lumalang, first runner-up.
Last month, SPIS representatives Evelyn Noman, Anthony Mesina and Danilo Jarina went to the Department of Education in Pasig, Manila, to express their support of the department’s program.
They were welcomed by Education Undersecretary Dr. Fe Hidalgo. “She was delighted with the support of the SPIS in Riyadh,” Fredeluces said.
She added that what the SPIS did was an expression of love, care and concern for Filipinos.
School Principal Epifania Bagalawis thanked all the parents who in one way or another contributed to the success of the project. “The school is not only committed to providing quality education to Filipino expats’ children but also to offering an up-to-date learning atmosphere to our students in the Philippines.”
This program of the SPIS is in line with its commitment to helping the indigent in the Philippines.
Supporting the Adopt-a-School Program of the Department of Education has been the tradition of the school since its foundation and will, it vows, continue.
