MUSCAT, 16 June 2004 — Seven people were killed and two others injured in a collision on Monday night involving two speeding cars.
The cars swerved off the highway at Maabellah near Seeb International Airport and smashed into a row of roadside businesses.
According to press reports, the casualties included members of an Omani family traveling in one of the vehicles, as well as expatriate workers sitting at tables outside a coffee shop, who were hit by one of the cars.
The accident occurred where the highway crosses a deep valley at Maabellah, according to witnesses who said both the vehicles involved were traveling on the south bound side of the carriageway in the direction of Seeb.
