Summer Festival Opens in Makkah

JEDDAH, 17 June 2004 — Abdullah Al-Fayez, deputy of Makkah Governor Prince Abdul Majeed, has opened the festival activities of “Makkah Khair 25”.

According to Abdullah Bin Mahfouz, the summer festival, which is being held for the second year, will last for 60 days, and include entertainment and educational activities. More than half a million people, including pilgrims and visitors from outside Makkah, are expected to attend this year’s event.

Islamic scholars and university teachers in association with the World Assembly of Youth (WAMAY) have prepared 20 religious programs. There will also be an exhibition of books, computers, communications and children’s activities.

The festival will highlight Makkah’s heritage, with a Hijazi museum and a house built in the traditional Makkah style. In addition, organizers have marked out a wide area for rare desert reptiles and other Saudi wildlife.
