JEDDAH, 26 June 2004 — A new Saudi satellite television station, Al-Fajr Channel, has been provisionally launched on Nile Sat. This is the first satellite channel to specialize in the holy Qur’an.
The official launch is set for Aug. 31 in Makkah.
The channel will be available all over the world in Arabic while the Qur’an will also be translated into other languages such as English and French.
The main goal is to spread the message of the Qur’an by using graphics and other simple techniques.
Wajdi Ghazawi, general manager of the channel, said that the broadcast would include cartoons for children and documentaries on the history of the writing of the Qur’an.
