JEDDAH, 17 July 2004 — Dr. Ausaf Sayeed, former consul (Haj) at the Consulate General of India, has been officially named to succeed Consul General Syed Akbaruddin, who leaves for New Delhi tonight on completion of his four-year tenure.
“The Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi made the announcement late on Thursday night,” Akbaruddin told Arab News. S.L. Sagar, consul, will function as acting consul general until Dr. Ausaf arrives to assume charge.
Dr. Ausaf, currently at the Embassy of India in Copenhagen, Denmark, as counselor, holds a Ph.D. degree in geology from Osmania University and a diploma in Advanced Arabic from the American University in Cairo.
He joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1989. He was with the Ministry of External Affairs 1990-91, Embassy of India in Cairo 1991-93, regional passport officer in Hyderabad 1993-95, consul (Haj) in Jeddah 1995-96 and first secretary commercial and head of the chancery in Riyadh (1996-98). He also worked as first secretary commercial at the Embassy of India in Doha, Qatar, from 1998.
