Saudi Executed for Rape Attempt

JEDDAH, 19 July 2004 — A Saudi man convicted of attempting to rape his neighbor’s wife was executed in Riyadh yesterday, the Ministry of the Interior announced.

Adnan ibn Ali ibn Iyad Al-Shahrani was condemned to death after he tried to rape his neighbor’s wife, threatening her with a knife, said a ministry statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency.

“(He) slashed her neck with it (the knife) and attempted to strangle her and threatened to kill her son,” the statement said, adding that Adnan “pleaded guilty and admitted that he committed this act while intoxicated.”
