ISLAMABAD, 29 July 2004 — Former Pakistan Army chief retired Gen. Jehangir Karamat will be Pakistan’s new ambassador to the United States replacing Ashraf Jehangir Qazi, who has been appointed UN secretary-general’s special envoy to Iraq. Diplomatic sources said Karamat accepted the assignment after a meeting with President Pervez Musharraf recently. Qazi will relinquish his charge by the end of this week.
