JEDDAH, 12 August 2004 — Effat College has been granted a license by the Ministry of Higher Education to start courses in management sciences. The programs will begin next month, at the start of the new academic year.
Students will be able to pursue one of five majors — finance management, information systems, marketing, industrial management and accounting. The programs are modeled after the curriculum offered at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals with that institution’s full support for the new endeavor.
The duration of study for the new degree programs will be a minimum of eight semesters, like other Bachelor of Science degrees at the college. The medium of instruction is English. All eligible students can also benefit from Effat’s academic excellence grants to study in these programs, which offer financial incentives based on previous academic performance.
“Offering these new business majors comes as a response to the increasingly important role women need to play in the global and local economy,” Effat College Dean Dr. Haifa Jamal Al-Lail said.
We’re listening to the needs of our community and are determined to provide women with an education that ensures their ability to participate fully in both public and private sectors,” she added.
These new academic programs supplement the college’s ongoing commitment and focus on preparing its students for the workplace. We already have a career development office which provides them with advice on finding, securing and training for jobs,” Al-Lail said. “In the future the college is hoping to add more majors, especially in scientific and technical fields.”
The college is fully licensed by the Ministry of Higher Education and recognized throughout the world, so students can be assured of postgraduate admissions or jobs after completing this degree.
Experts holding Ph.D. and master’s degrees will conduct courses. Registration begins this summer and classes will begin early September.
