ABHA, 17 August 2004 — South African team Jomo Cosmos took Tunisian side Safaqsi in their stride with a 2-0 verdict in the International Friendship Soccer Tournament here yesterday.
Later, Al-Hilal too were on the winning side when they defeated Japan United club by a solitary goal. The all-important goal was scored by Mazen Al-Farraj in the 89th minute.
Hilal dominated throughout, but had to soak up the swift counters from the Japanese before running out eventual winners.
The South African club too controlled the proceedings against the Tunisians, who were not given much space to mount the raids. With the Cosmos defense standing out, the attack had a field day.
The goals came on the either side of the break and it was enough to assert the Cosmos’ dominance. The first goal was scored by Samu Kuana in the 14th minute and Tysiyu Moabaling rounded off the tally with a 82nd minute strike.
The victory put Cosmos on top in Group B with seven points from three games.
