ALJ Mobile ICU Saves 555 in Six Months

JEDDAH, 23 August 2004 — Six critically injured people were saved by the Saudi Red Crescent Society recently with the support of the mobile intensive care unit donated by ALJ Programs for Community Services, according to a press statement issued by the organization.

The ambulance equipped with ICU and manned by medical experts, transported 247 patients suffering from chronic diseases to hospitals and provided treatment to 308 others in the first six months of this year, the statement said.

ALJ Programs donated the mobile ICU, which is the first of its kind in the Kingdom, as part of its community welfare efforts. Based in north Jeddah and located close to the Corniche, the mobile ICU offers round the clock service to deal with emergency conditions.

The ambulance has transported patients suffering from cardiac and respiratory problems, cases of suffocation as well as patients with broken ribs and spine, the statement said.

The ICU, valued at SR800,000, is provided with advanced medical equipment including a heart rate monitor, an artificial respirator, a blood analyzer unit and surgical tools.

The ALJ programs for Saudi Red Crescent include establishment of first-aid centers, development of its means of transport, organizing courses for its staff and incentives for its outstanding officials.
