KARACHI, 17 September 2004 — A fleet of 46 new Al-Khalid tanks and field command vehicles SKAB will be delivered to the armed forces by Sept. 23.

This was stated by the Chairman of Heavy Industries Taxila, Maj. Gen. Israr Ahmed Ghumman. He said Pakistan-made tanks and other heavy military vehicles are of international standard in capability and performance, and available at competitive prices.

Delegates from several countries, participating in the international defense exhibition IDEAS-2004, have shown interest in purchasing heavy military equipment from the country, he said.

“There are only a few countries in the world that have the ability to build this sort of tanks and heavy military vehicles. That is why we have a huge market in this sector and through large-scale production we can earn enough foreign exchange,” he said. “Our heavy military products are the results of wars that we have waged, while some of the countries manufacturing tanks have no war experience.”

He said: “Till date we have delivered to the armed forces about 100 tanks, which are being utilized in the units and delivering excellent results. Besides, we have supplied the police with 25 armored vehicles ‘Mohafiz’.

Meanwhile, tanks Al-Khalid, Al-Zarrar and other heavy military vehicles were demonstrated at IDEAS-2004.
