NEW DELHI, 6 October 2004 — Authorities have seized yet more rockets in western Uttar Pradesh. Twelve rockets, including an anti-aircraft missile, were seized by police in a town in Bulandshahr district. And two more rockets were seized in Masuri, in Ghaziabad district.

Senior Superintendent of Police R.P. Singh told reporters here yesterday that of the 12 rockets, eight were live. He said police were trying to find out whether the shells were dumped there after the Ghaziabad operation or were lying there for long.

At Masuri in Ghaziabad district, local residents spotted the two mysterious objects and informed the police, who found them to be rockets.

Police are searching for more rockets in the scrap yard of Bhushan Steel Company in Ghaziabad, 25 km from Delhi, where a live shell exploded last week, killing 10 people and injuring a dozen. So far, 48 rockets have been recovered and of these 26 are live. Army personnel have seized several anti-tank and air-to-air missiles from the factory’s premises. The Ghaziabad district administration has ordered an inquiry into 16 companies in the area involved in buying scrap from abroad. Yesterday, a bomb disposal squad from Chandigarh arrived in Ghaziabad to defuse shells.

Authorities yesterday raided a Gujarat port from where the cargo imported from Iran entered the country. The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials carried out search operations at Adani Port at Mundra in the border district of Kutch and seized 15 containers. Two port officials were detained.
