Al Jazirah Down Alam Alriadah to Lift Snickers Six-A-Side Trophy

JEDDAH, 17 October 2004 — After two thrilling days Al Jazirah newspaper wrapped up the 2004 Snickers Six-A-Side Soccer Tournament for local media publications with a 2-0 victory over Alam Alriadah newspaper in the final.

The two-day tournament was held at the King Fahd Coastal City with the participation of around 300 journalists and media personnel from 20 media publications.

The 20 newspapers and magazines teams were divided into five groups. All matches were played at the indoor stadium.

Al Eqtisadiah and Alam Alriadah played under the banner of Saudi Distribution Company and Alam eventually made it to the final. Al Eqtisadiah showed great performance under their head coach Saeed Al Abiadh during the preliminary round matches but failed to make it to the final four when they were edged by Basim magazine.

Samir Al Ghamdi, organizer of the event said the main purpose in organizing the tournament was to gather the media men for an entertaining challenge away from the stress of journalism. The enthusiastic participation showed that the event was a success.

In the awarding ceremony, winners and best players received their trophies from Snickers, sponsors of the event. Trophies and gifts were presented by Dr. Adel Issam Al Dien, editor-in-chief of Alam Alriadah newspaper and Dr. Othman Abdu Hashim, deputy editor-in-chief of Okaz newspaper.
