JEDDAH, 30 October 2004 — Al-Ahli of Jeddah stunned Al-Shabab of Riyadh 1-0 in the King Fahd Cup Soccer League at Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Stadium here. Ahli’s key victory against Shabab helped Al-Nasr take over at the top of the league with 18 points while pushing Shabab to second with 17 points. It also lifted Ahli to sixth with 12 points.

Ahli’s victory was marred by a late red card to Brazilian Rogero, who was penalized for delaying tactics in injury time.

The only goal of the match came in the 21st minute through Brazilian import Keem.

The goal followed a nice move by Hussein Abdulghani, whose crisp cross was met by Saheb Al-Abdullah inside the penalty box. Saheb, in turn, redirected the header toward Keem, who tipped the ball over Rashed Al-Muqrin’s head, for what proved to be the match winner.

Shabab came close on more than one occasion but were thwarted by a well-organized Ahli defense. Though Ahli did attempt some counters, their defense proved that they were well up to the task of soaking up the Shabab pressure.
