JEDDAH, 2 November 2004 — Nibras El-Fadel, economic adviser to Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad, who arrived here yesterday, will meet with a number of prominent Saudi businessmen in both Jeddah and Riyadh to explain new economic reforms and future economic and financial trends in his country.
Fadel is one of the technocrats surrounding Bashar, who has introduced a series of economic, financial, administrative and judicial reforms in Syria. He was one of the main Syrian negotiators who concluded a major partnership agreement with the European Union.
“Fadel is also a member of the Syrian working team to coordinate with the French government in order to strengthen French-Syrian relations,” a press statement by the Saudi-Syrian Business Council said. Fadel holds a master’s degree in science and technology from the Massachusetts University of Technology.
He has previously worked in the United States and France before returning to Syria three years ago to hold the present post. His visit to the Kingdom comes ahead of the first Saudi-Syrian forum to be held in the Kingdom to strengthen cooperation and expand trade exchange between the two Arab countries. Fadel came to the Kingdom at the invitation of Basil Al-Ghalayani, chairman of the Syrian side in the business council, the statement said.
