JEDDAH, 20 November 2004 — A Saudi found himself in a fine pickle when all he wanted to do was to buy some food for his guests. Saleh Al-Ghamdi could not have imagined that his quest for food would end up at a police station. During the Eid holidays, guests turned up at his house late and with no food in his house, Al-Ghamdi went to a nearby restaurant to buy food. As luck would have it, the restaurant had sold out all in its menu for the day. The only thing left was half a roasted goat. This the chief cook had kept aside for the restaurant staff. But after Al-Ghamdi’s pleadings, the cook agreed to sell the cooked goat and rice hoping that the staff would settle for sandwiches instead. But this move got the staff’s goat. Before the sale could be done, the staff’s heated objections turned into a violent quarrel and police had to be called in. Al-Ghamdi was needlessly embroiled in the case which had to be settled at a police station, Okaz reported yesterday.
