JEDDAH, 21 November 2004 — Two swift goals at the fag end of the game helped Al-Riyadh stun Al-Ittifaq 2-1 in the King Fahd Cup Soccer tournament at Prince Faisal ibn Fahd Stadium in Riyadh yesterday.
All the goals came in the second half of the game but the twin strike within the space of five minutes, the second coming in injury time, put paid to Ittifaq’s hopes of coming away with at least a point.
Ittifaq led in the 60th minute through an Ibrahim Al-Moghnim strike and managed to ward off the sudden flurry of activity from Riyadh till the 88th minute. Omani Khalifa Ayel first restored parity and then struck again in the 93rd minute to seal a fine Riyadh victory.
There was another stunner at the Prince Abdul Aziz ibn Musaed Stadium in Hail with host team Al-Taie defeating Al-Nasr of Riyadh 2-0. Ahmad Al-Manawar (48th) and Mody Najai (75th) scored for the winners.
