Expats Raise SR85,000 for School Lab

RIYADH, 28 November 2004 — Sri Lankan expatriates in the capital donated SR85,000 to the fund-raising drive intended for the establishment of a full-fledged computer laboratory at the Sri Lankan International School in Riyadh.

The Sri Lankan Embassy, in cooperation with the Parent-Teachers Association of the school, organized a dinner to launch the fund-raising campaign at the Riyadh Palace Hotel, recently.

“Our target was to collect SR70,000 for this project but because of the generosity of the Sri Lankan philanthropists we netted SR15,000 more,” Sri Lankan Ambassador Ibrahim Sahib Ansar told Arab News, stressing that there is an urgent need for a modern computer laboratory for the students.

Speaking on the occasion, the envoy recalled that the school which was established in 1988 with 16 students on roll now enjoys a strength of 542 students.

The major individual donors included Razeen Salih (SR5,000), Mumtaz Ansar (SR3,500), Saifudeen Thassim (SR2,000) and organizations such as the school’s Board of Management, Sri Lankan Expatriates Society, Seva Vanitha (Organization of Sri Lankan Embassy officials’ wives) and Sri Lankan Expatriates Society in Madinah.
