JEDDAH, 30 November 2004 — The recently established center for businesswomen was officially opened on Sunday by Princess Adelah bint Abdullah. The launch of Khadijah bint Khuwailed Businesswomen’s Center, based at Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI), was attended by members of the board, and a large number of businesswomen and academicians.
“With the new restructuring happening at JCCI under the administration of Chairman of the Board Adel Fakieh, we were very fortunate to see the establishment of Khadijah bint Khuwailed Businesswomen’s Center taking place,” said Princess Adelah.
With the permission of Makkah Governor Prince Abdul Majeed, the Businesswomen’s Committee, established in 2002, was able to expand from a committee to a full-fledged support center to include a board of trustees from the existing members and a number of influential business figures and prominent citizens from Jeddah.
“Having such prominent figures as a part of the board of trustees gives great insight into development and growth of women in Saudi society within Jeddah and guide them with their points of view and visions,” added Princess Adelah.
Dr. Nadia Baeshen, general manager of the new center, said that its objectives include supporting business growth, opening means for communication and debating on the role of women in the work force.
“We see ourselves supporting the training, educational and experience sharing opportunities to further support the economic growth of the region,” said Dr. Baeshen.
The new headquarters for all businesswomen’s activities, the center will also be a major contributor in the fields of training and employment for women in the region. The center will also work as a liaison between the chamber and the businesswomen in all work-related areas.
One of the main goals of the center is to link its members with the special services programs provided by JCCI. These services include assistance in employment opportunities, support projects and work initiatives that women can access through educational training programs from home and provide free consultation for starting small businesses.
