KUWAIT, 17 December 2004 — The US has warned Americans in Kuwait that militants are preparing to launch attacks in Kuwait and has urged its citizens to be vigilant. The US Embassy in Kuwait said it “has credible information that terrorist groups are developing near-term plans for attacks against unspecified targets in Kuwait”. The embassy’s message was sent by e-mail and fax to Americans in Kuwait late on Wednesday. “The embassy reminds all US citizens to exercise caution, maintain a low profile and avoid areas where Westerners are known to congregate,” it said. It also told them to immediately report any suspicious activity to the Kuwaiti police or the embassy. The warning follows a Dec. 6 attack by terrorists on the US Consulate in Jeddah. A day after that attack, Kuwait boosted security around oil and other key installations and major Western embassies in the country.
