JEDDAH, 21 December 2004 — King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center is collaborating with the Society of Muslim Physicians in North America to organize an oncology radiation conference in Jeddah tomorrow. The one-day conference will have two scientific sessions addressing recent developments in oncology radiation.
Highly qualified doctors from KFSH and the Society of Muslim Physicians, and other high profile hospitals in the Kingdom will be demonstrating recent studies on oncology radiation. The North American delegation consists of 20 members. They will visit KFSH for five days until Dec. 25 to meet with their counterparts in the hospital.
Dr. Yasser Bahader, chairman of the organizing committee for the conference and assistant professor at the King Abdul Aziz University, said, “The conference will discuss three main focal points — stereotactic radio therapy that deals with curing brain tumor without surgery, brachy therapy that deals with treating breast cancer, and IMRT which concentrates on the tumor itself and its external therapy.”
Dr. Bahader said the KFSH receives around 900 new cancer cases annually.
