DUBAI, 30 December 2004 — Detailed master plans for Dubai Industrial City have begun to be drawn up, in the follow-up to the directive by General Sheikh Mohammed ibn Rashid Al-Maktoum, crown prince of Dubai and UAE Defense Minister.
“The concept of the city is under study and - apart from encouraging and supporting private sector investments in industry - the management of Dubai Industrial City plans to further promote industrial activity in the country by identifying critical sectors and promoting and establishing manufacturing facilities in such sectors,” explained Dubai Industrial City CEO Khalid Al-Malik.
The Dubai Industrial City will sprawl across 560 million square feet of prime land that is strategically located near the new airport and Jebel Ali Free Zone and with several access points to both the Sheikh Zayed Highway and Emirates Road.
“What will set the Dubai Industrial City apart from other such institution is our comprehensive understanding of the industrial sector. We will have an efficient and professional structured approach toward catalyzing industrial activity by instituting world-class international standards, setting up a dedicated industrial growth fund, industrial university, a dedicated logistics zone and a commercial area,” Al-Malik pointed out.
Releasing details about the Dubai Industrial City, the CEO explained that it shall be divided into separate main zones which will focus on core activities of a particular sector.
Al-Malik said the Dubai Industrial City will have a specialized logistics park that will provide state-of-the-art warehousing for its partners. “Our location is strategic and that is the key to our facilities. Logistics, express delivery and warehousing, labeling and packaging firms will find a natural partner in Dubai Industrial City as will advanced transportation specialists.
“We wanted to ensure easy access to resources and the shortest possible distance between the production point and the Jebel Ali airport and port. Our location also ensures easy access to highways so that goods can travel easily and rapidly by roads within the UAE and beyond,” Al Malik pointed out.
Another major segment of Dubai Industrial City will be the dedicated area for Small and Medium sized companies. “The small and medium sector is the backbone of any economy and the easiest to promote by both the government and the private sector entrepreneurs. In coordination with Mohammed bin Rashid Establishment for Young Business Leaders, we will pay special attention to promote this sector in the Dubai Industrial City,” Al Malik said.
