CAIRO, 3 January 2005 — Egyptian shares welcomed in the new year by rising to some record highs yesterday, with gains in all main sectors on optimism about the economy, brokers said. The benchmark Hermes index rose 2.9 percent or 691.81 to close at 24,584.91 points — an all-time high. The broader CIBC-100 index climbed 1.19 percent to 106.53.
