JEDDAH, 9 January 2005 — All employees of the National Commercial Bank (NCB) donated a day’s salary toward relief aid for the victims of Asia’s tsunami disaster, while the bank contributed SR3 million to the humanitarian cause.
NCB made the donation during Thursday’s telethon on Channel One of Saudi Television, which generated more than SR300 million in relief aid from Saudi leaders and generous citizens.
NCB Chairman and Managing Director Abdulla Bahamdan said the bank’s contribution came as a generous gesture in a show of brotherhood and sympathy toward others affected by disaster and in solidarity with the international community, since the Kingdom is influenced by what happens elsewhere in the world.
In announcing the employees’ contribution to the relief aid, NCB General Manager Abdulhadi A. Shayif said the staff initiative reflected the Saudi citizens’ positive response to the fundraising campaign launched by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd and Crown Prince Abdullah in order to alleviate the sufferings of tsunami victims.
In addition to the donations made by the bank and its employees, NCB has set up an account (No. 7777) at all its branches in the Kingdom to receive donations and support the relief effort. The bank also established a toll free number 800-244-3333 to receive and send donations from inside the Kingdom. Those who wish to support the campaign from outside the Kingdom may call 00966-2-6475055.
