RIYADH, 25 January 2005 — A long cherished dream of a world-class educational institution in the Saudi capital has been realized with the opening of the Delhi Public School here, said Dr. Ibrahim H. Qauayid, chairman of the DPS board of directors.
DPS has tied up with the local Darussalam International School.
“We have translated our dream into reality by establishing Delhi Public School here, which has emerged as a center of academic excellence in the capital city within a short span of time”, said Dr. Ibrahim.
The school, affiliated with India’s Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), has witnessed tremendous growth in terms of its strength and receiving astounding support from the patrons.
In a joint statement Dr. Ibrahim and Nadeem Tarin, chairman of the DPS managing committee, said that “this premier institution seeks to play a positive role in shaping up the career, personality, and outlook of the young generation. This is being made possible in DPS under the able supervision and guidance of well-qualified teachers up to Grade 12.”
The school has recently recruited some 35 DPS-trained teachers from India to achieve academic excellence.
In the first phase, nine teachers came from India “These teachers are well-versed in teaching and counseling according to the standards set by the best schools of the world”, said Dr. Ibrahim and Tarin. They reiterated that the DPS encourages the child to develop independence, adventure and involvement besides excelling academically.
At the very outset, Dr. Ibrahim and Tarin also thanked Narendra Kumar, chairman of the DPS Society and Mukhtarul Amin, member of DPS Board of Directors, for visiting Riyadh recently and for their valuable suggestions. They also thanked Salman Khurshid, president of the DPS Society, for his untiring efforts to promote DPS schools across the globe specially in the Gulf and Saudi Arabia.
Asked about the motto behind opening DPS, they said that DPS stands alone in terms of high-quality teaching and personality development of the children. “A better institution was a long-felt need of the Indian community of Riyadh in particular and the DPS has fulfilled that need”, said Dr. Ibrahim and Tarin adding, “We have also finalized plans to construct school building with a built-up area of some 20,000 square meters”.
The building, they said, will have nearly 150 class rooms with two separate wings for boys and girls. “The new building would be a high-teaching complex with state-of-the-art facilities available for the students that to on an affordable fee.”
They said that the plans are also afoot for opening the DPS chapter in Dammam during the next academic session.
Speaking about the salient features of the school, Dr. Ibrahim and Tarin said, “the highest quality of education, the moral values and an effort to inculcate among students an interest to participate in extra-curricular activities are the three main components of DPS education system”.
“Short-term counseling programs for parents are also organized within the framework of the mandate of DPS, which today stands as a citadel of learning and harbinger of quality consciousness committed to developing the minds and initiative of the children”, they said.
They said that DPS, in its role as promoter of high quality education, has also planned to organize workshops exclusively for teachers currently serving at various Indian schools in the capital city. This proposed workshop will focus on the development of teaching capacity and social responsibility of teachers besides unveiling the DPS experience in the field of teaching and counseling. They also pointed out that a number of students from the US, Pakistan, Sudan, Somalia, Burma and other countries have been admitted to the school at different levels.
The Riyadh-based DPS, is part of a chain of 120 pace-setting DPS schools, that has the record of sending the highest number of students to medical, engineering and administrative services in India.
“It caters to the CBSE system to begin with and will have IGCSE subsequently”, said Dr. Ibrahim and Tarin, adding that the school has been organizing functions on various occasions.
