JEDDAH, 2 March 2005 — The 4th Jeddah Charity Marathon hit the streets today. Expected to answer the starting gun are 13,893 runners who registered for the foot race.
All participants have been advised to come at least 60 minutes before time to be able to line up at the Start Area at least 10 minutes before the race.
Following are the race times: 1 km Disabled Race outside the Al Bir Charity in Al-Zahra district (9 a.m.), 5 km Saudia Water Fun Run at La Costa (4.15 p.m.); 12 km Samsung Challenge at La Costa (4:20 p.m.)
“Participants arriving late will not be allowed to take part,” Talal Idriss, supervisor of the JCM and Nathan J. Clayton of Premier Marathons, which is organizing the event, said yesterday.
Idriss said that 10,429 including nearly 200 deaf participants have entered the Saudia Fun Run, 2,885 more for the Samsung Challenge and 18 participants for the Wheelchair Race, as well as 561 others for the Disabled Race.
The JCM has posted all rules and regulations on its website for participants and spectators.
Idriss invited spectators to join the fun and spend the afternoon supporting all the passing tired runners with a clap or a cheer. He warned them against entering or crossing any part of the course at any time. Spectators are only allowed into the designated public areas at the start and finish spots. He requested all runners when crossing the finish line to keep moving and follow the marshal’s instructions.
All information and details about the race, starting points and timings are available on the bilingual website (www.jcm.org.sa). The organizing committee has also dedicated a JCM Hotline on 02 639 1100 to provide information about the event.
