The Qatari Royal Court has launched the official website of Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser Al-Misnad, Qatar’s first lady and the wife of Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad ibn Khalifa Al-Thani. The site explores the work of Sheikha Mozah, outlining some of the projects she has developed and promoted. Sections focus on Sheikha Mozah’s involvement in education, family life, heritage and health, including public and private initiatives. An extensive section of links enables users to reach many of Qatar’s most important institutions and organizations.
Since 1995, Sheikha Mozah has taken a public role supporting the emir in his vision for the development of Qatar. Her new website, www.mozahbintnasser.com.qa, is the latest step in that support. Rich in graphics and color, the site is part of Qatar’s e-citizenship program, which has championed the adoption of new electronic and Internet technologies for public information, services and government. Through the website visitors can send a message to the sheikha’s office and join a secure mailing list for regular updates. The site is available in three languages — Arabic, English and French — to reach as wide an audience as possible.
While many in the West believe that Gulf women lead limited lives, Sheikha Mozah’s website beautifully shows a different perspective. In all aspects of her work, Sheikha Mozah has been guided by respect for traditional values and a commitment to the highest possible standards. However, that has not held her back from contributing actively to improving the lives of the people of Qatar. The work of Qatar’s first lady has been recognized internationally by two honorary doctorates from Virginia Commonwealth University and Texas A&M University, and by a UNESCO appointment as Special Envoy for Basic and Higher Education.
