Today and tomorrow Effat College will be coordinating activities at the Third Symposium of Learning and Technology under the theme “Shared Minds, Shared Vision.” This symposium is an annual event that encourages active collaboration and challenges participants to share, inspire and showcase ways that educators are using technology to enhance learning.

The primary goal of the symposium is to provide a forum for educators to disseminate information relative to current and future innovations and developments in the use of educational media and technology within the teaching/learning process. The symposium showcases state-of-the-art practices and related research for teachers, instructional technologists, researchers, technical support specialists and administrators in the K-12, post secondary and corporate training sectors. This year some of the symposium’s focus topics will be “Helping students develop skills to succeed in a knowledge-based economy,” “Aligning higher education outcomes with work force needs using technology” and “Maximizing the cost-benefit of IT investment in education.”

The web pages for the conference are accessible through Effat College’s home page, www.effatcollege.edu.sa. Effat College is a private and non-profit organization, licensed by the Ministry of Higher Education. The college engages students in career-relevant education within a supportive learning community responsive to the needs of the 21st century. According to a message posted at the site from Princess Sara Al-Faisal, chairman of the College’s Board of Trustees, “Effat College pioneers the best and most distinctive education available. Our main concern is ensuring that the personal development of the students takes place in an educational environment, which reinforces the traditional values of our society.”

An Effat education is characterized by small classes, active learning, mentoring by highly qualified faculty, challenging academic programs, opportunities for study abroad and numerous extra-curricular activities. This week’s Learning and Technology symposium is one more way that Effat enhances the available knowledge base for both its students and Kingdom’s educators.
