PUNE, India, 21 March 2005 — Hours after Pakistan tested its long-range Shaheen II missile, India on Saturday successfully test-fired its third generation anti-tank guided missile system Nag at the K.K. Army testing Center in Ahmednagar, 80 km from here.
Scientists of the country’s Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and top army officers were present during the test, a defense department official said.
An all-weather day-and-night weapon, the Nag anti-tank missile’s guidance system is based on infra-red imaging that ensures high accuracy. The missile system weighs 42 kilograms and has a range of four km. It is one of the five missile systems developed by the DRDO under India’s integrated missile development program.
The weapon system is ready for serial production and would be inducted into the army and air force soon, the official said. India’s current anti-tank missile system has a range of two km.
