COLLEGE PARK, Md., 25 March 2005 — James Gist came off the bench and turned in 15 points and seven rebounds in leading the Maryland Terrapins to a 78-63 victory over the Davidson Wildcats in the second round of the NIT from the Comcast Center.

Travis Garrison and Nik Caner-Medley each netted 12 points for the Terps (18-12), who will take on TCU in the quarterfinal round on Saturday. Caner- Medley also pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds, while Ekene Ibekwe and Chris McCray chipped in 11 points apiece. Sterling Ledbetter even got into the mix for Maryland with 10 points and a team-high eight assists.

Brendan Winters led the way for Davidson (23-9) with 16 points on 5-of-14 shooting from the floor. Jason Morton added 15 points, while Logan Kosmalski notched a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds in the losing cause.

Both teams battled back and forth in the first half, entering the break knotted at 34-34. The Wildcats made 7-of-18 three-point attempts in the frame, while Maryland shot 43.3 percent from the field.

The Terps closed out the game with a 12-2 run en route to the 15-point victory.

Maryland made 41.8 percent of its total field goal attempts in the game, while holding Davidson to a dismal 31.3 percent shooting effort from the floor.

Meanwhile, in College Station, Texas, Pat Carroll poured in a game-high 22 points and pulled down six boards in leading the Saint Joseph’s Hawks to a 58-51 victory over the Texas A&M Aggies in the quarterfinal round of the NIT at Reed Arena in College Station.

Carroll finished the game 4-of-11 from the floor and a perfect 11-of-11 at the charity stripe. Dwayne Lee added 13 points and seven assists for the Hawks (23-11).

At Memphis, Tenn., Rodney Carney netted a game-high 26 points in leading the Memphis Tigers to an 81-68 victory over the Vanderbilt Commodores in the quarterfinal round of the NIT.

Darius Washington added 23 points and seven assists for Memphis (22-15), which will take on Saint Joseph’s in the semifinals at Madison Square Garden on March 29th. Anthony Rice chipped in 11 points, while Duane Erwin notched a double-double with 10 points and game-high 15 rebounds in the victory.
