JEDDAH, 3 April 2005 — Pakistan is making efforts to host the Islamic Solidarity Games in 2013, according to Muhammad Ajmal Khan, Pakistani minister of culture, sports and youth welfare.

He said the Islamic Games in Saudi Arabia, which is to open on April 8, would help strengthen Muslim unity and encourage Muslim youth to put in their best.

Asked why Pakistan was not participating in weightlifting, he said the International federation for the game had suspended three of its players. Khan said the meeting of the OIC ministers of sports and youth welfare in Jeddah would discuss ways to improve the sporting performance of youths from member countries. “We will make use of the great expertise achieved by some OIC countries in various sports. We will also make use of the services of internationally known coaches and trainers,” he said.
