JEDDAH, 17 April 2005 — The Orphans’ Friends Committee of Albir Charitable Society will organize the first open charitable squash championship at Jeddah Intercontinental from April 27-29. Several noted squash players are invited to participate in the championship being held with the support of Makkah Governor Prince Abdul Majeed.
The event objectives are to help increase the financial resources of the society, introduce and define Albir’s activities and objectives to the public, encourage and expand squash sport among young players, and discover future champions for the Kingdom.
An executive committee will monitor and supervise the championship. The committee is headed by engineer Suhail Nageeb and comprises Khalid Ba Feel, deputy chairman of the Orphans’ Friends Committee, and engineer Fahd Batarji. The event will also witness the participation of Fahd Al Rufa’i and Tareq Ashri, who are members of the Referee Committee of the Saudi Squash Union.
The championship will be under the supervision of the general presidency of youth welfare and will be sponsored officially by Traco Marble & Ceramic Company, United Sugar Company (family sugar), Jeddah Intercontinental Hotel, KIA Motors, MBC Panorama and Al Bilad newspaper.
