RIYADH, 11 May 2005 — Thousands of Motor Sports fans gathered in Al Azariyah area in Riyadh to watch a breath-taking “Red Bull Challenge the Pyramid,” the 4x4 challenge recently.

Divided into four categories — motorbikes (open class), quads (open class), 6 and 8-cylinder cars - the heated competitions set off with 50 drivers and riders.

The motorbikes category witnessed the Al Shagawi brothers compete against each other before Ahmed led Mohamed by less than one second. Mohamed Al ‘Eneizi came third, lagging behind Ahmed by 1.7 seconds only.

The quad category, however, witnessed record times that night, in view of the quads light weights and powerful engines. The key factor, though, was vigilance and focus, as the slightest ‘faux pas’ costs precious seconds, not to mention the title. Yasser Al S’eidan came first with 5.888 seconds, followed by Mohamed Al Shegawi in second position, while Fahd Al Heidan ranked third.

Around midnight, the competition flared up with the takeoff of the cars contests. With Hamoud Al Fayez recording less than one second lead in the 6-cylinder category over Ziad Al Awwad and Maged Al Awwad, the audience could barely wait the 8-cylinder competition.

With the powerful 400 hp turbo engines crossing a 150m lane at 40 degrees inclination, Fahd Al Jaber achieved 9.154 seconds, only to be outdone by Ali Al Khdaz’s 8.959 seconds. Still, the decisive score was set by Omar Yahia who broke the records with 8.564 seconds.

It was a long night glowing with contestants and an enthusiastic audience coming from all parts of the Kingdom and neighboring countries to enjoy the thrill of the “Red Bull Challenge the Pyramid” competition, sponsored by Brown Cruiser. Finally, the event organizers promised to make of the event a steady rendezvous on the yearly Gulf sports calendar.
