KUWAIT CITY, 12 May 2005 — Kuwait has allowed Al-Jazeera, the Arab world’s most popular satellite TV station, to report from the country again, two and a half years after it closed it down complaining of lack of objectivity in its reporting, the station’s bureau chief said.

“An Information Ministry official informed us that we can operate in Kuwait again,” Saad al-Enezi said Tuesday. He said the official did not give a reason.

The Qatar-based Al-Jazeera said it learned of the decision on Monday. Kuwaiti officials could not be reached for comment.

A senior official at the station in Qatar said Al-Jazeera submitted an official request to be reinstated directly after the ban. He said the station was not given a reason for being allowed to operate in Kuwait again.

The Nov. 3, 2002, closure came as US forces in Kuwait were preparing to invade Iraq to topple Saddam Hussein.
