RIYADH, 13 May 2005 — The Saudi banks, in cooperation with the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency (SAMA), will host a two-day 7th GCC Banking Conference from May 17 at the Institute of Banking in Riyadh. Eid Alanazi, the 7th GCC Banking Conference Manager, told Arab News that “The conference aims at bringing the GCC central banks and the commercial banks of the region together to exchange ideas on the major common challenges facing the financial industry today”.
The event, under the patronage of the GCC General Secretariat, will be attended by the governors of the GCC central banks and monetary agencies, heads of GCC capital markets, and senior bankers from the region and international financial institutions.
Entitled “A New Vision for the GCC Financial Services Industry”, the conference will focus on various important issues with great relevance to the financial industry in the GCC countries, Alanazi said, adding that there will be four sessions that will thoroughly discuss various important issues.
The first session will discuss the future challenges for the GCC capital markets. The second session will focus on the GCC economy and the new business environment. Third session will look into the impact of Basel II on the banking industry. And the final session will deal with the impact of the GCC monetary union on the financial institutions.
