JEDDAH, 17 May 2005 — With a view to cutting operations costs, Saudi Telecom Co. (STC) tied up with Lucent Technologies to deliver an advanced software solution.

As part of the contract announced yesterday, Lucent will be supplying its market-leading VitalSuite Network Fault Management software to provide real-time inter-domain fault management in the operator’s network. STC has previously successfully deployed Lucent’s Network Fault Management software (formally Navis NFM) to help manage the elements and systems deployed in STC’S multi-vendor, multi-technology switching, access and transmission networks.

According to a press release issued by Lucent Technologies, which has headquarters in Murray Hill, N.J., the new project has two phases.

Phase one is already deployed, and includes interfaces with a number of element domain managers from different vendors and technologies, for alarm integration. Phase two includes root cause analysis and fault correlation across multiple domains.

Phase two is currently being deployed, waiting for STC’s overlay Inventory Management Solution to be completed. After the completion of this project, STC will be able to correlate problems from the divergent domains, further reducing costs and complexity to maintain their growing network.

Lucent Worldwide Services provided the customer with on-site training, installation, and system integration support including assistance with project lifecycle management.

The VitalSuite Network Fault Management software, which monitors multi-vendor, multi-technology networks, enables STC to expand and grow its networks and services without the need to obtain and use separate systems for separate domains. Lucent’s Network Fault Management software identifies, manages and correlates critical problems to their root causes, while reducing the many alarms generated in the operations center.

The network fault management software is part of the Lucent Network and Service Management OSS software portfolio. Lucent’s award-winning VitalSuite Network and Service Management solution is used today by more than 200 fixed, mobile and broadband service providers and over 1,500 government and enterprises worldwide.

Lucent leverages innovations from Bell Labs and experience and expertise from LWS to provide highly flexible, scalable solutions that enable converged services enhance the user experience and accelerate time to revenue. Lucent partners with world-class system integrators, complementary ISVs and hardware vendors to deliver end-to-end solutions that reduce operational complexities, ease integration costs and maximize profitability.
