NAJRAN, 18 May 2005 — The killer of the Indonesian maid whose body was discovered on Thursday in Najran has been arrested and has confessed to the crime, Al-Watan reported.

The murderer was arrested a few days after the body was discovered in an area called Shaab Al-Khashkhash. Forensic experts said the victim died as a result of a severe beating.

The murderer who has a physical defect in his leg rented a car to move the body after he killed the woman. The man’s neighbors said he seldom had anything to do with them and that he spent most of his time alone.

Abdullah Ahmad, the man who found the body, told Al-Watan that early on Thursday he took his family to the Shaab Al-Khashkhash area. He said: “I was surprised to see a large plastic bag there and I became suspicious after I saw car tracks near the plastic bag.”

When he approached the plastic bag, he saw an arm and part of a head beneath the bag. He immediately took his family away and contacted the police. Abdullah was afraid that the killer might be close by and would cause harm to his family.

The murderer works in technical education in Najran and his wife is a math teacher. A police source told Al-Watan that the murderer’s wife was absent from work on Wednesday which was the day the crime was committed. On the same day, the murderer rented a car and when he returned it, there were traces of blood inside.

During the police investigation, the man’s wife showed no emotion and maintained that she had no knowledge of the crime. She was released the same day.
