JEDDAH, 22 May 2005 — An Indonesian maid was found dead in her employer’s house last Monday morning.
Residents of Al-Naeem district in north Jeddah were surprised on Monday morning when they heard commotion and screams from a nearby house off Al-Amal Street. Shortly after, the police and an ambulance arrived and a stretcher with a covered body was brought out of the house and put into the ambulance.
“There is always yelling and screaming from that house,” said Umm Feras, a neighbor. “We didn’t think of intervening or calling the police because we didn’t want trouble with the family. They’re very unfriendly and we hardly see them at all.”
According to the neighbors, the household consists of a husband, his wife and three sons of different ages who are students. They believe the man is Egyptian but his wife is Saudi.
The Indonesian Consulate in Jeddah has no information about the suicide.
“We know nothing about the incident,” said Sabeelullah Maqam, press attache at the consulate. He was surprised to hear about it even though it supposedly happened a few days ago.
