JEDDAH, 1 June 2005 — Prince Sultan ibn Salman, secretary-general of the Supreme Commission for Tourism (SCT), and Culture and Information Minister Iyad Madani yesterday launched the marketing campaign for this year’s summer tourism. The campaign will be carried out with the support of Saudi and foreign media including satellite channels.
Prince Sultan and Madani earlier signed an agreement for cooperation to implement the commission’s media strategy. Under the agreement, the ministry would telecast programs to enhance public awareness on Saudi tourism. According to a report carried by Saudi Press Agency, the media campaign will continue until July 8.
Saudi Arabian Television as well as other media organizations would give special coverage for tourism events in various parts of the country, the agency said. “Be Closer to Your Family...Know the Kingdom” is the title of the campaign, Prince Sultan said, adding that the campaign was aimed at promoting a culture of tourism.
“We target to reach 80 percent of the public through this campaign,” the SCT chief told a ceremony held the Saudi television center in Riyadh. He emphasized the role of media in promoting domestic tourism and highlighting tourist attractions in various parts of the country. He said SCT would contract with a national advertising agency to carry out the campaign and win the hearts of tourists.
