HAMBURG, 9 June 2005 — European 400 meters champion Ingo Schulz of Germany will not compete at the athletics world championships in August because he has not regained his form after a foot injury, a team coach said yesterday.

“Ingo Schulz will definitely not compete at the worlds,” national team coach Juergen Mallow said.

Mallow said that Schulz was lagging behind in training and stood no chance of meeting the qualifying criteria for the August 6-14 world championships in Helsinki. Schulz, 29, won the 2002 European title in Munich, the year after earning a world championship silver in Edmonton.
