CAIRO, 21 July 2005 — On her way to the Carthage festival to perform her scheduled concert, Tunisian singer Latifa was involved in a car accident, but emerged unscathed.
The singer was in the company of her family and friends.
The accident slightly delayed Latifa’s performance, which marks her return to her mother country after a five-year absence. The concert drew a large audience, including the Tunisian minister of culture and a number of Tunisian artists.
The singer sang a new song “Ya Watani” (My Country) and dedicated it to Tunisia. Latifa’s two-hour performance which included her most popular hits dazzled the audience.
Latifa had agreed to give her performance after festival director, Raouf Bin Amr, promised to revive the festival, a request Latifa had made during several interviews. She had expressed concern that the event was becoming too inclusive, and should be reserved for elite talent.
The singer also revealed that she will be performing a number of concerts in Tunisia at other festivals.
Latifa is considering appearing in films starting with “Gana El Hawa.”
