RIYADH, 23 July 2005 — Mobily, the Kingdom’s second mobile service provider, is heating up the competition as it tries to woo new customers with a big dose of “wow.”
The company is showcasing its new 3G technology (short for third generation), which revolutionizes telecommunications with unique features and will enable callers to view each other in real time during the course of the call, identify a caller’s position using GPS technology or watch satellite television channels.
It rolled out the new technology at the Abha Shopping Festival, which was inaugurated by Asir Governor Prince Khaled Al-Faisal on Wednesday.
“Participating for the first time, we are showcasing our products and services in full-fledged stands and kiosks, designed to reflect the industry’s avant-garde spirit,” said Humoud Al Ghobaini, Mobily media and public relations manager.
The month-long festival, sponsored by Mobily, is expected to attract more than 1.5 million visitors.
Mobily is operating three pavilions and three kiosks at the event.
The 3G technology is being demonstrated on 3G-enabled equipment placed inside two Mobily-branded cars as well as on 3G-enabled mobile phone sets.
Visitors can view a dynamic 3G demo along with live transmissions of some popular, free-to-air television channels.
He said Mobily will be the first service provider to introduce this new technology to the Kingdom in 2006.
“Mobily personnel at the stalls, will be available to address queries on present and future products and services of the company” Ghobaini said.
In addition to the 3G technology, he added that latest 2G mobile phone technology is also on display at the Abha Shopping Festival.
