RIYADH, 30 July 2005 — Mobily is introducing full international roaming service for prepaid SIM card users in the United Arab Emirates, which includes SMS, MMS and GPRS services beginning this week.
“At present, Mobily Wafer and Mobily Aneese customers can make and receive phone calls, send and recharge their prepaid cards in Bahrain, but in UAE they can also use MMS and GPRS,” said Humoud Al-Ghobaini, Mobily public relations and media manager.
He added that in the near future international roaming will also be extended to prepaid cards for other countries around the world. Postpaid customers already have access to roaming services in 130 countries, he said.
Mobily has activated roaming service for all prepaid and postpaid customers without an advanced deposit. He noted that while abroad, customer services will be available at +966-56-010-1100.
The company recently signed a roaming agreement for postpaid customers with more than 214 mobile operators in 113 countries, including France, Lebanon, Egypt and the GCC countries. He expects that number will increase soon, and more value-added services with a wide range of options will be offered.
He said Mobily will be the first service provider to introduce new 3G (third generation) technology to the Kingdom in 2006. Mobily is demonstrating the new technology at the company-sponsored Abha festival. The 3G new technology is currently available in 15 countries, including Japan and the United States.
The Kingdom will be the second country in the region after United Arab Emirates to make the new state-of-the-art technology available.
Mobily paid a license fee of SR800 million to use the new technology in Saudi Arabia.
