TORONTO, 2 August 2005 — Tony Womack smacked a single to score Hideki Matsui in the bottom of the 11th inning to give the New York Yankees an 8-7 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday.
Derek Jeter had four hits for the Yankees, who had trailed 6-2 in the eighth and 7-6 in the 10th, and drove in a run while Jason Giambi added two solo home runs, with the second the 300th of his major league career.
Tom Gordon (4-4) picked up the win with a perfect 11th inning while Kevin Gregg (1-2) allowed two runs on four hits over 1 1/3 innings and took the loss.
Angels catcher Bengie Molina hit a three-run homer while his brother Jose added a solo shot.
In Toronto, Vernon Wells hit a two-run homer while Reed Johnson added a solo shot for the Blue Jays in their 5-1 victory over the Texas Rangers.

In Boston, Manny Ramirez drove in the winning run with an eighth inning single to help the Red Sox to their fifth-successive win with a 4-3 victory over the Minnesota Twins.

In St. Petersburg, Travis Lee homered as the Tampa Bay Devil Rays beat the Kansas City Royals 6-2.

In Oakland, Kirk Saarloos pitched a complete game seven-hitter as the Athletics beat the Detroit Tigers 5-2.

Nick Swisher and Jay Payton both homered for Oakland.
