JEDDAH, 14 August 2005 — A young Saudi driver found himself in trouble when he received ten speeding tickets during a ten-hour journey from Jeddah to Qasim, reported Al-Watan newspaper. Taking a positive outlook, he said that he was thinking of calling the Guinness Book of World Records to claim a record. His frustrated family — who accompanied him on the journey — said that if he had kept a steady speed he would have reached his important appointment early. His determination to reach in time had actually slowed him down; he did not realize that being stopped for speeding ten times actually delays a speeding driver. The father of the young man refused to help his son pay the tickets and the mother vowed never to ride with him again and so the young man was left alone to pay the price. He explained his behavior by saying that the car was new and the road was free of traffic.
