Indian Athletic Meet Set

JEDDAH, 23 September 2005 — An athletic meet gets under way today at the Ministry of Education Stadium, as part of the ongoing India Festival here.

The tournament, from 6.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. and from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., features a variety of events for participants categorized under different age groups. Veterans (above 40) will take part in 100 m and 200 m running and 400 m walking races. There are many events for Under-40, U-19, and U-16. They include long and high jump contests, relays, and a tug-of-war. U-12’s will have contests like 75 m running, potato gathering, and lemon-spoon and sack races.

Dr. Suhel Ajaz Khan, HOC and Consul (Haj) will be the chief guest at the morning session. Women’s events are being separately organized at the International Indian School. Veteran women will take part in a musical chair contest and a lemon spoon race. Girls will participate in a skipping race, aside from running and other events.
