NEW DELHI, 24 September 2005 — The Chhattisgarh High Court yesterday rejected the bail petition of Amit Jogi, son of former state Chief Minister Ajit Jogi, in connection with the murder of NCP Treasurer Ram Avatar Jaggi. Chief Justice Ananga Kumar Patnaik dismissed the petition after hearing both the sides. Amit Jogi, who was arrested by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on July 1 in connection with the killing of Jaggi in June 2003, has been on judicial remand ever since at Raipur Central Jail. Jaggi was gunned down while on his way home in June this year. Four others had been arrested in connection with the murder. Jaggi was a close confidant of former Congress heavyweight V.C. Shukla. In another unrelated development, the CBI has also interrogated the son of another former chief minister. Ajay Chautala, son of the former chief minister of Haryana, Om Prakash Chautala, was questioned for his role in a scandal in the recruitment of junior basic teachers in the state.
