BHOPAL, 27 September 2005 — Emerging after a yearlong self-imposed hiatus from politics, former Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly Speaker Sriniwas Tiwari has announced that the Congress party would initiate a movement against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Madhya Pradesh on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, from Rewa.

The agitation would then spread to other districts and eventually acquire a state-wide character, said Tiwari, who occupied the speaker’s chair for the last two terms.

Tiwari’s political fortunes dwindled when he lost the Mangawan Assembly segment in the last election to his arch political rival Girish Gautam. His son, who represented Rewa Lok Sabha seat, also lost the elections last time.
