BHOPAL, 6 October 2005 — India’s International cricket commentator J.P. Narayanan died here in the wee hours of yesterday after protracted illness. He was 59. He succumbed to liver cancer. He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter to mourn his loss.
A graduate Mechanical Engineer from Maulana Azad College of Technology, (MACT), Bhopal, Narayanan had to his credit broadcasting running commentaries in English for 100 One-Day Internationals and 44 Test matches in his career as a cricket commentator for All India Radio (AIR).
The third One-Day International match between India and Pakistan played at Keenan Stadium, Jamshedpur in India on April 9, 2005 was probably his last assignment as a cricket commentator last cricketing season.
Just prior to this he had broadcast running commentary of the first Test match between India and Pakistan at Mohali from March 8 to 12 this year.
Apart from this in the past he covered World Cup-1987 and 1996; Nehru Cup; MRF Trophy; ICC Champions Trophy at Bangladesh and Sri Lanka; Hero Cup and various other two-Nation and multi-Nation Series both in India and abroad.
Madhya Pradesh Gov. Dr. Balram Jhakhar and Chief Minister Babulal Gaur have condoled the demise of Narayanan. Former Ranji Trophy players Salim Mohammad Khan and Javed Ansari from Madhya Pradesh amongst others have also condoled his death.
Bhopal Divisional Cricket Association President Suresh Pachauri, who is a minister in Government of India, chairman Dhruv Narain Singh, who is also chairman of Bhopal Development Authority, and secretary Dr. Shafqat Mohammad Khan have sent a condolence message to the bereaved family.
